The beginning sounds like a machine struggling to work. It sounds like heavy machinery in a post-apocalyptic, distressed scenario (though we obviously don't live in a post-apocalytic world, the machine sounds like it has seen better days). I hear electric guitar and some sort of synth. I hear distortion of these sounds. I hear a heart beat overlaid over another heart beat. The whole piece kind of sounds like exaggerated and distorted elevator music, like elevator tracks were sampled and then recreated in a completely different way using different instruments. The distortion sounds like the track was played on an old sort of record player. It sounds foggy/cloudy in a vaguely 50's way.
