Project 3

Statement of Defense:  When I was in basic training (boot camp) I remember being bombarded by drill instructors yelling, screaming to the top of their lungs that my ears could no longer hear words but rather a mesh of noises that clash and pierce my eardrums. But as soon as I sit in that barber’s chair, I was able to experience serenity for brief momentary time.  The buzzing noise that the clippers make become soothing and appease my anxiety and gives my eardrums a much needed break. However, as soon the noise the hair clipper makes go away I am faced with the abrupt ear stabbing noise once again.

I found this personal experience to be relative to this project because it makes one think about what noise is relative to another noise. In my experience I would rather listen to the buzzing noise of the clippers rather than the blasting noise the drill instructors made. But in reality that buzzing noise can be aggravating to another being.

Sound is not just for filling space. It is also for manipulating time, transporting the listener to the past, present or future.
