Navigator
references our reliance on technology over actual lived experience. In the
short sound piece, the character is so focused on following the GPS directions
exactly, that he doesn’t realize when a glitch causes the program to drive him
off a cliff. The sound piece ends with a
loud explosion as the car falls to the ground.
In a humorous twist on the expected, the character survives, completely
unfazed, and exits his car and walks away nonchalantly.
The
sound piece uses recorded sounds of walking and driving, as well as found
footage including explosion sounds, wind sounds, and typing sounds by some of
the following people: lsprice, ALLANZ10D, tommccann, loofa, zxin, thanvannispen,
RutgerMuller, Andy19, oceanictrancer, kangaroovindaloo, and michimuc2. The footage was layered and cut apart to
create a multifaceted sound narrative.
