For this sound project I wanted to
focus on how the noise you hear in everyday life can become a sort of music in
itself. Common noises you hear come together all at once to create a sound
reminiscent to that of an orchestra tuning their instruments before a
performance. When placed together the sounds you hear everyday can place you in
an entirely different environment than your everyday life.
The
clicking of a light switch provides the metronome sound and pattern of a
conductor’s baton. A chair scraping across the floor creates the loud horn like
sounds, while other elements like an alarm, utensils, a garbage disposal, and
sinks create the greater fluctuation in sound which comes from instruments like
the violins, woodwinds et cetera. The sounds all come together until they are
silenced by the conductor tapping their baton in front of the orchestra, in
this piece the clicking of the light switch, and settles into a silence before
the performance begins.
