Project 3

Artist Statement

Sounds are all round us. They are apart of everything we do. We create with everything we do, but we barely pay attention to it unless it’s called music. Some people notice the little sounds in life and say that is music. Others only consider sounds and beats that show up in a certain pattern to be music. For my project, I wanted to recreate the sounds you hear when a person stays up late to write a long paper for a class. The sounds, although not a typical musical layout, create a feeling of time passing by because of all activities going on in the room and in the dorm hallway.
This sounds heard in this project are a mixture of sounds I recorded personally and sounds I found on the Internet. The audio piece starts off with coffee brewing and the microwave being turned on. Each of these sounds is heard from different side of the speaker because they are located in different sides in the room. The sound of fast typing follows the coffee and microwave sounds. Whenever the typing sound plays, a drumming beat is heard in the background. This is suppose to symbolize how when we leave something to the last minute, we are always under pressure to finish our activity. The rest of the sounds in this piece include going to the bathroom, taking a showers, more typing, drops from the sink and hearing the people in the hallway. This sound should be listened to with headphones or with at least two speakers, one on the left and the other on the right.
