This Volkswagen commercial immerses people in a valid hypothetical situation that is a very real issue in their daily lives. The sudden jolt/ consequence of looking at one's phone when driving is not something that can easily be dismissed, the commercial provides at least a short-term impact about the issue.
An example of a non-narrative film that comes to mind is Gone Girl, there a numerous instances where flashbacks occurred based on entries of a diary. The beginning of the film was reminiscent of the end frames.
Pan's Labyrinth included scenes where the opening dialogue references a fair tale that somewhat disconnects throughout the entire film until the very end, where the purposes of the events where finally explained, connecting the beginning and ending.
