Underbed Bunker
Living
on campus in a dorm room during college is almost a rite of passage for some
students. It’s the first time they get to live on their own; it’s one of the
first steps of being independent. However, there may be other reasons why a
student may choose to live on campus. Whatever the reason may be, the majority
of students live off campus for at least one year. But hardly anyone ever talks
about the bad aspects of living off campus—sometimes they push two people two
share a living space in a giant square and other times there’s not even enough
space for the two beds to fit. For my video capturing a small space, I wanted
to show what a friend of mine did to cope with living in a tight, on campus
dorm.
The beginning of the video shows a
girl walking to her bed, however, instead of going on top of her bed, she goes
underneath her bed into what looks like a small living room area. This living
area, only existing in the space directly underneath the bed has a bookshelf, a
television, a bed like area, and food. This is where the girl is presumed to
spend most of her time. After the girl goes under the bed she start to do
homework, and works on it for a while. When she wants to take a break, she puts
the homework aside and lies down and goes on her phone. During this time, the
girl falls asleep. When she wakes up, she looks at her watch, realizes her show
is about to start, and turns on her TV. Later on, the girl decides to read a
book and eventually goes back to doing homework. I wanted to show the passage
of time, in her small living area, this girl goes through during a school
night.
