Project
# 2 Proposal
I will shoot a video that takes place in a bathroom. Majority of the film will be centered on the
bathtub. The film will begin with a
close up of the bath faucet running water.
It will go on to show that the bathtub is nearly empty and has just
begun to fill up. The process of the tub
filling will be shown, as the water sways and moves in waves. Emphasis will be put on this through the use
of zooming in and then back out again.
Slowly, bubbles will be added into the tub. As they begin to form and grow, the tub fills
up more and more. The lights will then
slowly dim down. Multiple small candles
surrounding the tub will light, one by one.
The water is so hot that steam rising from the water is visible and
zoomed in on. Then, petals of roses are
dropped one by one into the water. As
the water turns off, the camera turns its attention away from the tub and
towards the mirror of the bathroom. In
the mirror you can see a blurry, out of focus, and subtle glimpse of a
subject. The camera then captures the
subject from the upper things, down to the feet as the person’s robe is
removed, drops to the floor, and is zoomed in on. The Subject walks into the tub, slowly and
one foot at a time. The camera focuses
on the tile wall of the bathroom until the subject is fully immersed into the
water, covered in bubble. Only glimpse of
skin is showing. The water begins to
shift in to a deep red, little by little.
The bubbles pop a bit at a time. The
lights dim darker and darker and the waxes of the candles are shown
melted. The lights go out completely and
the final lit candles burn out. This
film is meant to depict an extremely intimate and private process. It shows the preparation for suicide, but
done in a rather glamorous and romantic fashion. For most of the film, the mood is elegant and
lovely with an eerie overtone. It
appears as though someone is setting up a sacred space to cleanse and bathe
in.
Project
# 2 Proposal
This film will take place in my art studio. My studio is a small space that feels
overwhelmingly chaotic because it is filled with clutter. A huge variety of mediums, materials, and
unfinished projects are scattered amongst the space in heaps and piles. The film will start out zoomed in on a pile
of shattered glass and mirrors. It will
then carry through the floor of the space, showing paints, brushes, tools, half
created wire structures, and piles of fabrics tangles into one another. It will then show the wall, which are covered
in drips of paint leftover from previous work.
It will move on to zoom in on a cooking pot that is on the table which
is filled with hot wax. The viewer will
observe the artist’s hands grabbing the pot and pouring the wax amongst a
surface of a sculpture in progress.
Glimpses of works in progress will be shown added to with different
colors and mediums. The camera will
begin moving fast and circularly to emphasize chaos and intensity. The last shot will be of the artists hands
covered in paint and inks holding each other.
I feel driven to create this film to reveal to others a glimpse of my creative
process, while at the same time allowing me to evaluate it and see it from a
different perspective then being immersed in it. I often feel overwhelmed and unstable. My studio reflects my internal world
immensely. I always have multiple
projects I am working on simultaneously.
This is the way that I create.
This is where I thrive creatively, and titer tatter on the thin line of
insanity. It feels vulnerable to share
this intimate space with outsiders, yet authentic and honest. I think that it will be relatable to some and
shocking to others. I do not feel that
it is necessary for the artist to be revealed further than the hands. This is because the space in which she works
in is all revealing. It is a film that
is both personal and collective to creators.
