Project One

Food waste in America, unfortunately, is not something that is elusive. Families throw away thousands of dollars worth of food every year. But even worse, one sixth of the crops that grow each year are not harvested because they do not meet the unreasonably high standards of supermarkets. Those standards are put in place by society- each tomato must be perfectly round and one shade of red, each carrot must be long, orange and straight. Just because a crop isn't up to ridiculously high standards doesn't mean it tastes any worse or is any less nutritious than any other crop.

I chose to focus my project on making people understand that produce doesn't have to be absolutely perfect to still be valuable. This stop-motion can serve as a PSA to inform people about the problem by bringing it to life as an insecure carrot. People who understand and are willing to help fix the problem are elusive, but hopefully this video with bring them out of the woodwork and serve to help end the ridiculous food waste that occurs every day.
